Philips DVDR75 Progressive Scan DVD Player/Recorder
3 stars of 5 Average Rating We like this DVD recorder the best because of the combination of the DVD+RW feature and good price. This machine allows capturing and editng of videos on DVD's. The model provides extensive inputs--including an i.Link digital video jack which allows transfer and assembly of camcorder footage, old video tapes, or burn video from a PC straight to DVD (up to 6 hours per disc side using either DVD+R or DVD+RW). Virtual Time Base Corrector ensures better-than-original copies from old video tapes. Like all DVD recorders, you do have to check that its recordings play back in the DVD players you are interested in. You can also use the DVDR75 like a VCR, burning televised programs directly to disc using helpful VCR Plus+ programming data. Recording functions include safe record, one-touch record (OTR), track append, track divide, track erase, automatic/manual chapter marker insertion, disc write protection, favorite scene selection, index picture screen for instant content overview, and Selectable Index Pictures. |

Philips DVDR985 Progressive-Scan DVD Recorder and Player
3 1/2 stars out of 5 Average customer rating Based on DVD+RW technology, the recorder lets you transfer your camcorder footage to a DVD+RW or DVD+R disc. DVD+RW discs are great for editing and re-recording on DVDs. Alternatively, DVD+R is less expensive and prevents someone to mistakenly recording over important material. A digital i.Link data transfer connection (IEEE-1394) transfers MiniDV camcorder video to DVD, preserving the footage in high-quality digital picture and sound. It also includes a component-video input, which offers a high-quality analog connection to turn your collections of VHS tapes into higher-quality digital recordings. To simplify recording, the machine creates an index picture screen automatically. Similar to a prerecorded DVD movie, the picture screen lets you see what has been recorded and how much disc space is available. All this without the winding or rewinding associated with VCR's. Using the machine to record a TV show on a DVD is as easy as pressing a button. Philips DVD recorders not only record, they also offer convenient editing features that allow you to do linear editing directly on the machine, using the TV as a display. |

Panasonic DMR-E50SDVD Player/Recorder (Silver)
Highest Rating 5 out of 5 Stars The DMR-E50K's joint support of DVD-RAM and DVD-R media provides the best of both worlds: DVD-R for the highest compatibility (letting you share video recordings with virtually anyone with a DVD player) and DVD-RAM (for rewritability and benefits like Time Slip, chasing playback, and simultaneous play and record). DVD-RAM offers the perfect solution for recording and re-recording favorite programs--over 100,000 times on the same disc. In addition to an attractive price tag, the feature-rich DMR-E50K offers the benefits of progressive scan (for use with high-definition and HD-ready TVs), MP3 playback, enhanced time-shifting, instant access, and on-disc video editing. When connected to home theater components, you'll enjoy playback of multiple digital entertainment formats, including DVD Video, CDs, and audio CD-R/CD-RW discs. With instant recording onto a DVD disc, there's no need to have to find blank space, as with a VHS tape. Just press record and the unit automatically finds space on the disc, much like a computer's disk drive. You can replay a scene or watch a movie from the begining while a program is still recording, without disrupting the recording process. It's also simple to transfer favorite VHS tape recordings to space-saving discs, and personal movie libraries and family videos can be archived, preserved, cataloged, and accessed. |

Panasonic DMR-E30K Progressive Scan DVD Recorder
3 1/2 Stars out of 5 Average Rating The Panasonic DMR-E30 offers the flexibility of recording on both DVD-RAM--ideal for instant chapter access and for multiple rerecordings--as well as DVD-R, regarded as the most widely compatible of the many DVD formats (great for sharing camcorder footage with loved ones). Record up to 12 hours on a double-sided DVD-RAM disc and up to six hours on a single-sided DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc, thanks to Panasonic's original Hybrid VBR (variable bit rate) technology. (Rewriteable DVD-RAM discs can be rewritten over 100,000 times and offer 4.7 to 9.6 gigabytes per disc.) The unique Time Slip feature lets the machine be used like a personal video recorder, or PVR. It's possible to view the recorded portion of an ongoing program from the beginning, while still recording the program in progress. The Direct Navigator instantly accesses recorded material from an onscreen menu that lists recording dates, times, channels, and titles. Finding and viewing recorded material are simple, because there's no need to search, fast-forward, or rewind. |
