The DealCloset staff is very impressed with the selection and pricing of
digital cameras at Amazon. Several of our favorite digital cameras are
sold there at very competitive prices.
For people looking for a camera for photographing their new children or grandchildren, the latency between when you push the shutter and when the camera captures the image is critical. A long delay makes capturing shots of squrming babies very difficult. That is why we like the Nikon Coolpix 5700 5MP. The Nikon CoolPix 5700 5MP takes the picture when you press the button. To further sweeten the deal, Amazon offers a $100 rebate and a discount on extra flash. The camera costs $999.99 including shipping! Wow! For a small camera for snapshots we like the Canon ELF series PowerShot S230 digital camera. Like the Nikon, it also records pictures rapidly after the shutter button is pressed. It measures 3.4 by 2.2 by 1.1 inches and weighs 6.4 ounces. The the PowerShot S230 comes, with 16 MB CompactFlash card, lithium-ion battery (model NB-1LH) and battery charger (model CB-2LS), USB and A/V cables, wrist strap, and CD-ROM with imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac. The 3.2 Megapixel camera is adequate for snapshots or images up to 8.5 by 11 prints. When we last checked, Amazon was selling this product for $364.94. If your camera takes a type 2 compact flash, and both cameras we recommend do, absolutely buy the 1GB IBM Microdrive. Ignore the person who says theirs broke. The DealCloset staff have used microdrives ever since they were released. They work great. In fact, we can't say enough good things about them. The only tricky thing is we found the data format is corrupted on the drives when we transfer pictures with anything other than the camera's defined interface. We don't know if this will happen with your camera and flash, but we wouldn't take the chance. For other cameras and related equipment go to Amazon's Top Selling Photo page. |

Cameras Store at buy.com
Buy.com carries digital cameras by Fuji, Kodak, Nikon, Minolta and Olympus. Although originally a computer store, Buy.com has made the transition into electronics, games, books, sports, DVD's, and bags. They are always quite competitive on price. Be sure to check out their deals on compact flash . Whatever camera you purchase, extra compact flash cards are like extra rolls of film. You always need a few. (Remember that you can copy your pictures from your camera to a PC to free up space on the compact flash. In a sense you can "reuse" your "digital film" that means you wont need as many cards as film.) |

Computers4SURE sells digital cameras from Canon, Sony, HP, FujiFilm, Minolta, and SiPix. They also carry compact flash. Whatever camera you purchase be sure to get several extra flash cards. They are like reusable film. The pictures are stored on the flash until you download them to your PC. Then delete the old pictures and take new ones on the same card. |
