Create a new
search and alerting window to see an example for the term new tires.
Use the "New Search" form
(on the left) to refine your search until you find one that returns what you want and avoids items you don't want. If you have trouble getting a search string that meets your criteria send us
feedback
describing what you are looking for and a human will try to find a good search string for you.
The search string in the "New Search" form on the left will match the search string in the "Can't find what you want? Create a DealCloset alert" form on the right, so you shouldn't need to modify the string after you find a good search, but you can if you like.
Then decide how much you are willing to pay for the item and set the highest price field. We will notify you of items less than that price.
For auctions, set the time till auction expiration. We check every four hours for auction deals, so the minimum time is 4 hours. You might want more notification than that, so select 8 hours if you like.
To make sure you are a human and not a computer, we require that you type in the characters shown in the graphic. Sometimes they're hard to read. Don't worry, do the best you can. If you make a mistake we give you many chances to get it right.
Finally, enter the email address where you want the alerts sent. Be sure to white list our email address alerts@dealcloset.com and click the Set Alert button.
Simply visit the DealCloset Alerts home page,
enter your search, and criteria as described in "How do I fill in the Alert Dialog". We'll send you a confirmation email to activate your alert. You must click on the link in that email to activate your alert. If this is your first alert it's important not to miss that email since we don't let people we don't know about set multiple alerts.
Our searching and alerting service supports boolean searching.
The table below summarized the key commands.
In practice, we get good results by doing a search and then determining what words should not be in the result. We add each negative word to the search with a minus.
For example, we may first search for tires. There are way too many results!
So we decide we don't want goodyear tires. Our search becomes: tires -goodyear. Then maybe we decide we don't want wide tires. The new search becomes tires -goodyear -wide
Once we get a reasonable number of results with the products we want, and the products we don't want, we can either bid on an appropriate item, or set an alert.

We check our databases once every 4 hours at the top of the hour.
Potentially as often as every 4 hours. In practice much less since we don't send an
alert about an item we've already send mail about. Most people receive the email within 5 seconds of our sending of the mail. Hotmail sometimes delays delivery for long periods though, so it's best to use a paid account.
Each email you receive has a link back to DealCloset. The confirm email has the confirmation link. Alert emails have links for "Add Alerts", "Delete Alerts", and "Modify Alerts".
These links all display a page with a summary of your alerts, the ability to delete alerts, and the ability to create new alerts. Finally if you'd like to run an alert search, click the search string link.
Yes. We send all emails with both a text and html section so most mime enabled email readers should work. Send feedback if your email reader doesn't work.
Sure. But you'll need to delete your current alerts and re-enter them using your new email address.
No. We value your privacy as much as we do our own. We don't like
unsolicited email and we won't sell you out to those who send it, or
anyone else for that matter. Your email address will never be shared,
traded, sold, delivered, revealed, publicized, or marketed in any way,
shape, or form. If you'd like to learn more, we encourage you to read
our privacy policy.
